Arganzuela was for many years an industrial zone; little by little it gave way, mainly thanks to the railway Green Corridor, to a residential district.
The Green Corridor has transformed the old railway network that crossed the area into parks and, fundamentally, housing.
Arganzuela comprises the territory east of the Manzanares River and entirely within the perimeter of the M-30. It limits, to the north and northeast with the districts of Centro and Retiro; to the east and southeast with Puente de Vallecas; to the south with that of Usera and to the west with those of Latina and Carabanchel.
It is home to the Matadero Madrid cultural center, which hosts various exhibitions and activities. There is also the Madrid Railway Museum and the Madrid headquarters of the National Museum of Science and Technology.
The most outstanding festival celebrated in the district of Arganzuela is the Fiesta de la Melonera, in mid-September.
